Understanding The Surgery

The skin is composed of a superficial layer the epidermis and a deeper layer the dermis. The dermis has two layers, constructed of collagen, hair follicles, sebaceous glands.. During resurfacing attention is made to avoid injury to the deeper layer of the dermis since it will produce scarring.
The type of procedure and postoperative healing will depend on the kind of resurfacing agent used and the frequency and density of its application and the depth of its penetration in the skin.
Usually the agent results in removal of the superficial layer of skin and a dermal reaction that improves the amount of collagen in the dermis.
