Botox Injections

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contraction of the underlying facial muscles during facial expression. The more these muscles contract, the deeper these wrinkles and lines will be. These lines start to appear around the eyes, in the forehead and around the lips. The depth of these lines is also exaggerated by thinning of the skin, sun exposure.
Botox is an approved medication by the American Food and Drug Administration to block the impulses from the nerves to the facial muscles that cause these expression lines and wrinkles. Botox relaxes the muscles, decreasing the strength of their contraction. After treatment, the overlying skin is smooth without the dynamic wrinkles. It is essential to treat the right muscles that are causing the wrinkle in order to maintain a natural facial expression.
Botox treatments have been used safely over the past fifteen years. Thousands of patients have been receiving this medication becoming now one of the main modalities for antifacial aging.

Understanding Botox treatment
Cosmetic nerve weakening using Box injection is a safe and simple procedure when performed by experienced physician. Microneedles are used, and very small amount is injected in a precise fashion along sites where the facial muscle is causing wrinkles. The pain associated with the injection is very minimal not requiring any local anesthesia, although a special cream is applied over the skin in order to decrease the sting at the needle entry. Occasionally a small degree of bruising can occur at the injection site, this usually last for few days.

Dr. Fuleihan performs Botox treatments for the treatment of forehead lines and wrinkles, crow’s feet (area around the eyes), chin dimpling, improving a gummy smile, decrease banding in the neck, improving jaw line, or raising the tip of the nose.
What to expect following treatment?
Bruising is the most common side effect. In certain patients if a high pressure and large volumes or sites are used, temporary weakness of nearby muscles can occur. Around the eye, the physician should be careful as the site and volume of injection since we don’t want the medication to enter certain eye muscles. Adherence to special protocols is essential in order to avoid injecting large doses ob Botox.
Botox usually improves the dynamic wrinkles but not all the fine wrinkles of the face which are due to sun damage.
Botox injections give a temporary effect on dynamic wrinkles, lasting for 4-6 months. Following injection their effect is seen after three days.
It is essential to avoid messaging the area treated and avoid bending or heavy straining in the first 24 hours after treatment.
